Presentation and learning objectives

Master degree in Chemical and Process Engineering

The chemical and industrial process engineer is an internationally recognized and appreciated professional, who, thanks to specific training in the chemical-physical and biological fields, is able to design and manage the production processes and plants of consumer goods in a sustainable way, and to promote industrial technological innovation.
The Master Degree modernizes the traditional skills of chemical engineering to the contemporary world. This discipline has always guided the industrialization of the discoveries of chemistry (for example plastics, synthetic fibers, fertilizers, fuels), thus evolving as an autonomous and independent discipline from chemistry and industrial chemistry, and pervading a variety of industrial systems once not recognized completely related to chemistry (from the pharmaceutical industry to the food industry, from the production of detergents and cosmetics to energy, from biotechnological and biomedical processes to pollutant treatment processes, from industrial safety management to the electronics industry). In this way, chemical and process engineering contributes in a decisive way to the creation of those production processes that contribute to spreading a modern level of sustainable development, in the form of availability (on a large scale and at limited cost) of chemicals, materials, food, clothing, medicines, detergents, fuels, IT tools, tools for environmental management and safety.

Occupational opportunities

Masters in Chemical and Process Engineering will be able to find employment in: raw materials (chemical, food, pharmaceutical and process) or energy (from conventional and renewable sources) transformation industries; companies in the biological, biotechnological and biomedical sectors; service company for the management of equipment and plants (engineering company); design and research-and-development centers of public institutions and private companies; entities operating in the solid, liquid and gaseous waste treatment sector; companies and civil and industrial corporations in the role of safety managers; bodies responsible for environmental protection and control.

EUR-ACE accreditation

In 2018, the course obtained the EUR-ACE (EURopean ACcredited Engineer) international accreditation, which defines the ‘standards’ that identify high-quality engineering courses in Europe and around the world. These standards have been established taking into account the views and perspectives of all key stakeholders: students, universities, employers, professional organizations and accreditation agencies. Accreditation was achieved because the course of studies meets high standards of: organization, quality of professors, degree of student satisfaction with the skills acquired and level of employment. This is recognized by employers throughout Europe and also guarantees students the acquisition of the EUR-ING title.

Teaching staff

The teachers have a relevant teaching and scientific research experience, which is implemented through consolidated collaborations both with Italian and foreign multinational companies and with prestigious international research groups. Therefore, the professionals who graduated in Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Padova obtained competences that are among the most solid provided in Italian accademy and are highly appreciated in the industrial environment.

Access

Direct access to the Master Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering and Industrial Processes takes place from the curriculum of the Bachelor Degree in Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Padova. Information on access by students who have graduated from other universities, or who have obtained degrees in disciplines other than Chemical and Materials Engineering, are shown on  this page.
