Second cycle degree
The Second-Cycle Degree in Energy Engineering allows the continuation of the education acquired during the Bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering. The interdisciplinary competences obtained in the second-cycle degree induce the students to a widening and intensification of the general qualification and to the analysis of specific energy arguments, such as the systems and plants related to large energy conversions; the systems, plants and equipment for the exploitation of renewable energy sources; the energy utilization systems for industrial and civil applications.
The main objective of the course is to train an engineer able to operate with managerial or research and development functions in the generation, distribution and utilization of energy in its various forms (mechanical, electrical, thermal, chemical), evaluating the interactions with the environmental, economic and regulatory aspects. We want to train a high qualified technician in the energy sector able to:
– operate in the field of advanced design and innovation
– integrate conventional systems and renewable energy systems
– be competent in the field of energy generation, optimization and management of energy plants.
In the first year, compulsory in-depth course units are provided, while in the second year a very wide range of elective course units is available, so that students can meet their specific training needs (Educational offer).
Many course units include design, experimentation and analysis activities in teaching and research laboratories.
Occupational opportunities
Energy Engineering graduates can find employment as:
1. Designer in industrial companies producing heating or chilling and cooling equipment or systems for energy conversion (pumps, turbines, endothermic engines, boilers, heat exchangers, thermal and refrigeration systems, heat pumps, electrical equipment, etc. .), in the research and development, production and sales departments.
2. Designer in professional consulting firms for civil and industrial plant engineering (hydraulic, thermal, electrical) or for environmental impact assessments. You will be able to deal with: plant projects, testing, regulatory compliance, building energy etc.
3. Responsible for the conservation and rational use of energy in: a) Energy production and distribution companies (electricity, natural gas, petroleum products, industrial and civil heating and cooling), b) municipality-owned or industrial companies with self-production and significant energy consumption (Energy manager), c) Companies active in the field of energy from renewable sources (solar systems, wind farms, biomass plants).
The close collaboration between the University and the manufacture world is also demonstrated by the establishment of an industrial Advisory Board, to provide suggestions and feedback on the training and education in Energy Engineering in Padua with specific reference to the skills required by a constantly evolving production system. The Advisory Board includes representatives of Companies that are significant for Energy Engineering (Aermec, Alfa Laval, Acegasapsamga, Arneg, Blue Box Group, Carel Industries, Clivet, Edilvi, Electrolux, Enel, Hiref, Polidoro, Saet, Sinergo, Sit La Precisa , Steam, Ste Energy, Veil Energy, Zeco), and that discuss every two years with the professors the individual skills and qualities that an energy engineer should have to successfully tackle the challenges of the production world.
EUR-ACE accreditation
In 2018 the course obtained the international accreditation EUR-ACE (EURopean ACcredited Engineer) which defines the “standards” that identify the high-quality engineering courses in Europe and in the world. These standards were established taking into account the points of view and outlooks of all the main stakeholders: students, universities, employers, professional organizations and accreditation agencies.
Accreditation was achieved as the course meets high standards of: organization, quality of professors, student satisfaction for the acquired skills and employment rate. This is recognized by the employers throughout Europe and also allows the students to achieve the EUR ING degree.
Teaching staff
The professors have a significant teaching and scientific research experience, which is fostered by consolidated collaborations both with Italian and foreign companies, and with prestigious international research groups. The engineers with a second-cycle degree in Energy Engineering obtained in Padua therefore appears to have a qualification that is among the most solid provided in Italy and particularly appreciated in the industrial field.
